The bus lanes were supposed to be put in use this month, but according to the DOT, work was delayed because recent cold weather made it impossible to apply the paint and other markings needed to establish dedicated bus lanes.
Members of West Harlem Environmental Action said that the lack of awareness among some landlords about the importance of switching to cleaner boiler oils could mean that buildings miss the 2015 deadline.
Many local residents claiming that buses on 125th Street are the slowest in the area, and the Transit Riders Action Committee is looking to change that by trying to designate one of 125th Street’s lanes as buses-only.
