The Columbia chapter of Society of Women Engineers strives to provide a community on campus for women pursuing undergraduate degrees in the fields of engineering, physics, computer science, mathematics, and chemistry.
While women are still underrepresented in engineering fields, the gap is starting to close, Mary Boyce, the incoming dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, said in a talk in Lerner Hall on Sunday night.
Columbia's chapter of the Society of Women Engineers chapter spent more than a year planning the conference, which brought together professionals, undergraduates, and high school students.
