The opening of Campbell Sports Center opens up more room for student athletes at Baker, as well as more space at Dodge.
Campbell Sports Center is almost finished and should open in mid-January, although there is no set date as of right now.
The construction of the new Campbell Sports Complex is almost finished, and next on Athletic Director M. Diane Murphy's to-do list is the updating of Dodge.
The 40,000-square-foot waterfront park will be located at 218th Street in Inwood, next to Columbia’s new athletic complex, the Campbell Sports Center.
Construction on the Campbell Sports Center is proceeding along schedule. Additionally, administrators are providing 32 Inwood children with sports camp scholarships.
With the steel and concrete structure completed, construction of the Campbell Sports Center is moving to its next phase.
Olaf Schmidt, senior associate at Steven Holl Architects, the architecture firm designing the Campbell Sports Center, described that the inspiration behind the design was the combination of mind and body.
Before breaking ground at Baker Field, Columbia composed a set of benefits—including free tickets, lights on automatic timers, and alternative parking sites, but additional traffic problems have continued.
The bulk of the construction work at Baker Field is the installation of foundations for the Campbell Sports Center, which should be finished in about 10 months.
