Brown leaves at a bad time, but he left a model of openness and financial success that should be continued.
Barnard Dean Avis Hinkson informed students of Brown's departure in an email sent Tuesday afternoon. He will be Swarthmore’s vice president for finance and administration beginning in June.
Columbia’s ranking in the US News & World Report remained stagnant this year, coming in at number four for the fourth straight year. The report was published early Tuesday.
Just two years after the opening of the Diana Center, administrators are planning substantial changes for Barnard’s three main buildings, Barnard Hall, Milbank Hall, and Lehman.
Six students will sit on the Financial Advisory Council and offer input to Barnard Chief Operating Officer Greg Brown.
Unlike Columbia, which manages its investments internally, Barnard outsources its investment office to Investure, a firm that provides mid-sized non-profit organizations with investment expertise. The school has been working with Investure since 2006.
