South Division title still in play as softball faces Penn

  • Impressive Emily | The sole senior on the team, infielder Emily Snodgrass will play her last game as a member of the Light Blue as the team finishes the season against Penn.

Following a midseason slump, the softball team has revived its postseason hopes. The Lions head into this weekend’s matchup against division-rival Penn (15-18, 10-5 Ivy) with the chance of winning their first-ever South Division title.

The home-and-home series kicks off with a doubleheader on Friday in Philadelphia followed by a second doubleheader at Columbia Softball Field on Saturday. Heading into the four-game series, the Lions (21-19, 8-8 Ivy) trail the Quakers by two and a half games. A sweep will guarantee the Lions the South Division title. If the Light Blue wins three of the four games, it would need Penn to lose to Harvard in a previously suspended game between the Quakers and the Crimson that will be completed May 2.

Play kicks off Friday at 2 p.m. at Penn Park.
