Men's tennis tops Middle Tennessee State

  • Deadly Dragos | Sophomore Dragos Ignat took down his opponent in straight sets at Middle Tennessee State.

The No. 20 men’s tennis team, in its first action since a victory in the ECAC Championships, defeated Middle Tennessee State on Sunday in the Dick Savitt Tennis Center. Although the Light Blue’s No. 16 doubles tandem of juniors Ashok Narayana and Max Schnur was able to secure a win, the Blue Raiders won the other two doubles matches, taking an early 1-0 lead. However, it wasn’t long until Columbia’s singles players started rolling. No. 8 junior Winston Lin, junior Bert Vancura, and sophomore Mike Vermeer were especially dominant as the Lions took five singles matches in a row to secure the 5-2 victory. The team is back at Savitt Tennis Center on Saturday when it takes on Binghamton.
