Wrestling hopes to extend win streak against Bucknell

The wrestling team (5-3, 2-2 EIWA) wil be searching for its fifth straight win Friday when it hosts Bucknell (5-7, 2-1 EIWA) Friday.

“I think that we match up fairly well against Bucknell,” head coach Carl Fronhofer said. “I think if we wrestle hard and wrestle smart… we have a really good chance to win.”

The team, according to Fronhofer, has been doing just that over the past few weeks. After a narrow loss to Rutgers on Jan. 3, the Lions won three matches in a row fairly comfortably. Most recently, they won a slightly tighter 20-13 decision at American.

“Even in some of the individual bouts that we’ve lost, I felt like our performance overall has been good,“ Fronhofer said.

“Everyone is just wrestling with a lot of effort,” 165-pound senior Josh Houldsworth said. “That’s what it takes to win close matches.”

While effort is important, Fronhofer pointed to a few specific skills the team must work on.

“The effort has certainly been there,” he said. “Just fixing some technical things that guys need to fix on a case-by-case basis.”

The match kicks off at 7 p.m. in the University Gym.
