Last week, I read a terrible fanfic involving the Power Rangers at Columbia. The story was terrible, but overall, Columbia didn’t play as big of a part in the plot. The problem with going into details about the school life without doing the research is that the author will make laughably horrible mistakes. I actually facepalmed my way through this fanfic.
A term for all fanfic n00bs like myself: a Mary Sue is a self-insert. She is a projection of the author and she personifies everything good. Mary Sues have no flaws, or at least no real flaws. No, being too much of a perfectionist is not a real flaw. She’s supernaturally smart, beautiful, courageous, etc., and everyone loves her. If you don’t love Mary Sue, you’re a backstabbing, conniving, stupid, cruel, ugly, hobag and no one likes you.
