This week in CCSC: your career, lounge, and health

Looking for a job? Searching for more performance space? Trying to find housing for NSOP? Rakhi Agrawal brings you the highlights from last night’s Columbia College Student Council meeting:

  • Lounging around: CCSC President Karishma Habbu, CC ’13, led a discussion between council members and representatives from governing boards---including Community Impact, Student Governing Board, Activities Board at Columbia, Engineering Student Council, and ResPrograms---regarding several residence hall lounges. Data from a survey released through governing board listservs showed that students supported John Jay Lounge being converted to a performance space and Wien Lounge remaining a performance space, whereas there was a lack of strong opinions for potential uses of the Wallach Lounge, the East Campus second-floor lounge, and the 47 Claremont basement. Pravitra Chalkulngamdee, SEAS ’14 and the Community Adviser of Wien and 2013-2014 CA of EC, advocated for the needs of residents in Wien and East Campus, arguing that residents deserve to have lounge space to themselves to make residence halls more resident-friendly. Habbu said that this is just the preliminary discussion in a long line of conversations to be had about how these spaces may be improved.
