Where's the March Madness?

Last year I went to University of Maryland for their big basketball showdown against Duke. For those of you who don’t know, UMD hates Duke.

No matter what happens in the game, there is almost a guarantee of a riot to follow. As I watched the game with my parents, I couldn’t help but be a little jealous of my twin sister, who was having the time of her life cheering in the student section.

As each name on the opposing team was announced, “SUCKS!” and "A$$ HOLE" cheers were not uncommon and the refs were the evil of all evils. The students all got free t-shirts and never sat down.

Now that March Madness is again underway, I am filled with the same jealousy. I wish Columbia had the school spirit that these schools have. Put aside for a moment the fact that our athletics are sub-par and imagine a life where Columbia University was filled with Lion pride.

Columbia life is fun, but imagine how much more fun your college years would be if you had a closet full of Lion swag to wear every weekend for the game! We would have huge heads of Alex Rosenberg, scream at refs, and be on ESPN. There are Division III schools that have more pride than us.
