A team led by Columbia's own Sterling Nesbitt (Ph.D. program '09) in Tanzania discovered an almost complete skeleton of an unidentified dinosaur relative—the Asilisaurus kongwe—that is 240 million years old. Apparently, this means that dinosaurs branched off from the crocodile family earlier than we believed, forcing us to rethink what we thought we knew about dinosaur evolution.
