Since arriving at Barnard three years ago, Melissa Macedo, now a senior, has seen a different therapist every semester. Macedo has post-traumatic stress disorder, and had seen a therapist off-and-on before coming to college.
Some of the therapists Macedo worked with at the Rosemary Furman Counseling Center at Barnard were helpful: She remembers one woman in particular with whom she made a real connection. But at the end of each semester, Macedo had to see a new therapist. The one she’d been seeing would be transferred out for one reason or another.
