Dear readers,
On June 22, when Spectator first learned that Rachel Swett, CC '11, had passed away, we decided that evening to publish a brief post with what information we knew. That decision has generated some measure of controversy. Because we did not want a debate about student journalism to impinge upon the grieving of those who knew and loved Rachel, we have waited a few weeks to publish this note, which we hope will help explain why we posted our initial story when we did.
