Under the weather, over the moon?

Fall has officially fallen (how awful is that pun?), and I'm feeling a bit under the weather. And it's got me thinking: Getting sick at college is kind of a disconcerting experience.

In general, being sick sucks. Doubly. You cough and sneeze and blow your nose and sleep at weird hours and feel pretty god-awful. And then on top of that, while you're languishing in your bed watching some stupid TV show, life goes on in the world around you. Professors teach on. Friends laugh on. Newspapers print on. No one waits. The grand scheme of life could not care less about you. Oh, and you may be a macroscopic, sentient being, but bacteria and/or viruses are still better than you. Congratulations.

College sort of problematizes this outlook.
