On Tuesday, Michael Shapiro wrote a column titled “A Call for Ivy League athletic scholarships.” If for some reason you didn’t read it, Shapiro proposed that the Ivy League reverse its ban on athletic scholarships in order to compete competitively on the national stage. Using Stanford and Northwestern as examples, he noted Columbia can be both competitive in athletics and a top academic university.
