A letter to Alma mater concerning the MLB playoffs

Dear Columbia University,

Well, here we are, old friend - a month into our third year together and things are back to normal. You're busy cultivating my mind and assigning unreasonable amounts of reading, and I'm busy trying to remember how to say "I don't understand" in Chinese.

It's a nice month, October. That sweet chill has begun to creep back into the air, friends from other schools are visiting on their Fall breaks, and hipsters have started layering. But most importantly, the MLB playoffs began yesterday, and the Yankees came away with a win.

Now I realize that sports fall outside your general realm of expertise. You'd much rather be discussing social insurance under Otto Von Bismarck, or Oscar Wilde's relationship with the French Symbolists. And I love you for that. I do, however, want to explain - on behalf of Columbia's population of baseball fans - how these next few weeks of postseason games are going to affect our relationship.
