In an op-ed on Friday, CC sophomore Stephen Wu blasted the Global Core requirement, claiming, "It is disingenuous to argue that the Global Core is consistent with the mission to expound on great questions."
Yesterday, Spectrum blogger Grace Bickers chimed in as well, arguing that the assumptions underlying the Global Core's designation of some cultures as "non-Western" are faulty. I disagree with much of what each of them says, but rather than nitpick, it's worthwhile to acknowledge the central problem here—namely, that the Global Core fits in awkwardly with the rest of the Core Curriculum. What can we do about it?
