“When I get on a plane ... if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they’re identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried, I get nervous.” Whether or not Juan Williams, an analyst for NPR, should have been fired for his comments a few weeks ago is up for debate, but either way, no one in America was too surprised by them. Americans are still anxious after Sept. 11, and continuing terrorist threats, such as those in Europe, have not helped to alleviate the anxiety.
