CCSC: CAVA wants some new space, CUIT's considering Gmail, EC might get a turnstile

Reporters Leah Greenbaum and Melanie Broder give you the full scoop on what went down at tonight's CCSC meeting:

  • Alexander Harstrick, CC '12 and an EMT with CAVA, gave a presentation in favor of converting rooms 102 and 103 in Broadway (abandoned last year by CSA advising) into a new home for CAVA. Harstrick argued that the basement of Carman, where CAVA is currently housed, is problematic because during their long shifts, CAVA members are forced to take naps with members of the opposite sex. Apparently, this was the reason why two CAVA members, Orthodox Jews, quit. Furthermore, there is no cell reception in Carman, and CAVA would like to have a separate room for private medical files.
  • Harstrick said “We are facing a record setting year for CAVA. we are having more calls this year than in our 50-year history. Not only are our calls expanding in volume, they are also expanding in severity,” adding that he personally saw CAVA handle one death this summer.
  • On the CUIT front, the challenges of transitioning from Cubmail to Gmail were discussed. CUIT did not want to make the switch for privacy concerns. However, since Barnard just switched to Gmail, CCSC is considering putting in a recommendation.
