Today brings the third and final installment of Grading the Administrators. Monday, the Editorial Board evaluated Dean Michele Moody-Adams. Wednesday, it was Dean Feniosky Peña-Mora of SEAS. Now, a look at Provost Claude Steele.
Claude Steele came to Columbia a year ago under very unique circumstances: Since John Mitchell Mason, Columbia's first provost in 1811, effectively every person who has occupied this position has come from our faculty body. As an "outsider," Mr. Steele had his work cut out for him, and with that challenge in mind, his first year here was a success—more or less.
