Secret Gardens

On an unseasonably warm November afternoon, two students sit down on a park bench, lunch wraps in hand. Being in the big city makes them glad to take advantage of any piece of greenery—even if that “park” is right in the middle of the busiest street in America. The Broadway Malls, as these mid-street medians are known, are just one of many less conventional parks recognized by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation.
