We’ve all picked it up from Literature Humanities: Montaigne is the master of skeptically reconsidering and questioning reality. To think about Montaigne just in the context of Lit Hum, however, is too limiting for Christia Mercer, current Lit Hum chair and philosophy professor. Montaigne’s role, she says, extends into the Art Humanities classroom. Though Montaigne and an artist like Pieter Bruegel may have had no real influence on each other, Mercer says, their works complement each other.
