Drug bust updates: Representatives talk

Some more updates today from the News desk's Sarah Darville, Leah Greenbaum, and Chelsea Lo.

  • Jose Stephan Perez, Chris Coles, and Harrison David remain at the Manhattan Detention Center. Michael Wymbs and Adam Klein were released on bail yesterday.
  • Michael Bachner, Wymbs' lawyer, said,
  • "Michael is dealing with the situation and it's been very difficult on him as well as on his family. However he is confident that the matter will be resolved in a manner that will permit him to go on with his education, either at Columbia or elsewhere."

  • PKE released a statement announcing that Perez has been placed on administrative suspension from the fraternity.
  • “The Chapter leadership has notified the International Fraternity that it has presently placed Mr. Perez on administrative suspension and will await results from the Federal investigation before pursuing any expulsion hearings.”

  • Mark Williams, executive director of Psi Upsilon weighed in on the possible future of the Psi Upsilon chapter in Columbia. Williams also added that the investigation could continue in January after Winter Break.
  • “There will be remedial action.  possibly a membership review where you interview every member. We'll need to talk with everybody about the incident and determine their future in the fraternity.  Of course we hope we'll be able to maintain a chapter... We could close the chapter say for a couple years and then reopen it. All of these things have been done before.”
