"Operation" who?

The news this week has obviously sparked many opinions about various aspects of this story, and I’m only attempting to add mine to the rest of the fray. While a lot of different perspectives have been expressed, almost everyone I’ve heard has been critical of the media coverage of the drug bust. “Operation Ivy League” has had a very pointed response above and beyond what is necessary to cover the workings of the college drug scene.

The very name “Operation Ivy League,” conflates the alleged actions of five students with entirely different institutions. Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Brown, Dartmouth, Cornell, and Penn had nothing to with this story. But to a lot of people, judging by my past experiences at home, the “Ivy League” is already a completely distant and exclusive community. This story and its popular name only solidify such opinions and could convey negative feelings towards completely uninvolved schools.
