Columbia expands fundraising goal to $5 billion

Columbia has increased its fundraising goal from $4 billion to $5 billion. In September 2006, Columbia announced its original target to raise $4 billion by December 2011. At the time Columbia announced its plans, it was the largest fundraising campaign in higher education history, although Stanford eclipsed that a month later when it announced plans for a $4.3 billion fundraising campaign.
By October of this year, thanks in large part to a record $400 million donation by John Kluge CC '37,  Columbia had already raised $3.8 billion—well ahead of its $4 billion target by the end of 2011. The new Columbia Campaign is slated to end December 2013.
