A fraternity member's call for conversation

This week we are featuring a series of student opinions on the drug bust. To read yesterday's voice, click here.

Editor's note: We have granted the author's request to remain anonymous due to his fraternity's strict policy against discussing the drug bust. Without anonymity, the author would not be able to engage in a discussion that we see as important to the community.

I wrote this article because I felt it was necessary to do whatever I could to broach, even if slightly, the important issues regarding the drug bust. My hope is that, for better or worse, my words will galvanize some sort of meaningful conversation, and, if possible, some substantive action—which, in the midst of the very sort of taciturnity like that demanded and expected of me by the administration of my fraternity, would otherwise remain unaddressed.

This incident, and its subsequent fallout, has called into question my faith in our student body. While I am sure that the anonymous comments left on Bwog and Spectator articles are not indicative of the student body as a whole, they are nevertheless indicative of a large—and inordinately conspicuous—portion of students who find it necessary to distance themselves from the incident while simultaneously condemning those involved.
