Spectator Sports, over the next few days, will review what you need to know about Columbia's winter sports.
The Basics
One season after setting program records of 18 overall and nine Ivy League wins, the Columbia women’s basketball team is 0-13. The Lions entered the 2010-11 season having lost three starters from last year’s history-making team, most notably all-American honorable mention and Ivy Player of the Year Judie Lomax. In Columbia’s last three December games, three freshmen (Courtney Bradford, Brianna Orlich, and Taylor Ward) and two seniors (returning starters and co-captains Kathleen Barry and Lauren Dwyer) started. Junior Melissa Shafer started in Barry’s place against Lafayette on Jan. 5, but Barry—who did not play in that game due to injury—is expected to start in the Lions’ next matchup.
