Former J-School student caught fabricating stories

The New York Daily News fired former Columbia Journalism School student Rob Sgobbo for inventing fictional sources in a story on for-profit colleges he wrote for the Village Voice. Sgobbo, who graduated from the J-School last year, took the stage at the J-School's end-of-the-year award ceremony for impressive work in education reporting. His former classmate Rob Anderson recalls that "a large crowd cheered him on" at the award ceremony, adding that Sgobbo "had obviously made a lot of friends."  What a shame...

In his article, Sgobbo invented a character called Tamicka Bourges, who was allegedly burdened with debt from Berkeley College. Check out an excerpt of his wonderful inventions after the jump.
