This weekend marks the start of rush, that magical time when first-year boys and girls looking for friendship outside the dorms (or maybe just a recreation of Animal House) vie to enter one of Columbia’s fraternities or sororities. As rush-goers contemplate proper outfits and proper conduct (for sororities, this means no talking about boys/booze/beer/buildings), it also may be fruitful to contemplate less obvious pros and cons of Pan-Hellenic recruitment.
