It’s rare that you get to read a sentence that has four things wrong with it, but Glee (which aired a special “Superbowl/Thriller” themed episode yesterday) and its attendant press coverage are nothing if not over-the-top. In a recent Entertainment Weekly cover story on the rising prominence of gay characters on TV, Chris Colfer, who plays token homosexual Kurt Hummel, had this to say about his role:
"It's the first positive portrayal of a gay character, especially of a kid, without him being a punching bag, or a punch line, or an annoying sidekick."
Although the competition is stiff, this is definitely one of the most ridiculous statements ever made about Glee. Let’s break it down.
