ROTC: Anti-ROTC panel

The Coalition Against ROTC at Columbia University has organized a panel in 310 Mathematics to discuss and explain why it is against bringing ROTC to campus. Panelists include Dr. Rosalind Morris, a professor of anthropology; Dr. Elizabeth Blackmar, a professor of history; Daniela Garcia, CC '11; and Sumayya Kassamali, a graduate student.

7:44: Favorite moment of the night: The professors both referred to ROTC not as an acronym, but as "rotsie."

7:42: OK folks, that's all. There was an announcement that the Coalition will be on College Walk from 12 to 3 p.m. tomorrow, and everyone is invited  to attend the next town hall.

7:41: Morris says that funding and ROTC---which she argues is concerned with pedagogy---are two separate issues.

7:38: Blackmar: "I cannot imagine that having students in ROTC in my classes would in any way alter the way I teach my classes."

7:37: He corrected a question asked earlier, clarifying that Barnard and SIPA students are allowed to vote. Foote continues, "what impact would that [having ROTC students in class] have on the other students in the class?"

7:34: CCSC President Learned Foote at the mic. Last question.

7:32: Garcia says, "demanding it in exchange for military service for those in need is deeply anti-democratic."
