With 116 Varsity Shows as a legacy, to say that the 117th Varsity Show is under pressure is a bit of an understatement. But tonight’s West End Preview---the annual sneak peek of the spring musical comedy show written for and by students---showed glimpses of hilarity and originality that are sure to please Columbians during the actual showings in the spring (Friday, April 29 - Sunday, May 1).
While a scene depicting the enthusiastic first-floor meeting in the LLC--the living, loving center--started off somewhat flat and clichéd (Gasp! You’re from Harlem?! You’re a Republican?!), the introduction of the Frontiersman of Science brought new life to the preview. He’s from the Northwest … Corner Building, and he does back-of-the-envelope equations--on the back of an envelope.
