Trending: Three up and three down

A quick look around the world of Columbia and Ivy League sports to see who’s hot and who’s not.

Three Up:

1. Ivy men's basketball: It seems like a long time ago, but in the past two weeks Ivy League basketball has made national headlines, ESPN's top 10 plays of the weekend, and had a near-upset of Kentucky. Not bad for a league that's been seen as nothing more than a one-and-done league in the recent past. Strong showings by Cornell and Princeton in the past two years make it clear that Ivy basketball is nothing to laugh at.

2. Columbia wrestling: Eren Civian and Kevin Lester both represented Columbia at the NCAA Championships over break. Both went 2-2 at the top tournament in the nation, but for the Ivy League and Columbia in particular, any wins at NCAAs are good wins.

3. Sharay Hale: This track and field star finished seventh in the nation in the 400m dash at NCAAs over break, earning first team All-American status along the way. Hale likely would have finished higher, but was hindered when another runner fell in her lane. Hale may well be the best athlete at Columbia today, as evidenced by her tremendous performance.
