The Sophomore Waitlist---Why getting a bad number isn't necessarily bad

If you missed it, be sure to check out our complete lottery-number breakdown here.

What is the Sophomore Waitlist?

Here's the explanation in brief: If you're a rising sophomore in General Selection, and your lottery number is sufficiently bad, there may not be any rooms left for you to select by the time you're up. If this situation occurs, you will be placed on the Sophomore Waitlist and must wait until mid-July before finding out your housing arrangements. There has been a sophomore waitlist at least the last three years, and the list usually contains around 60 students. Last year, there were 67 waitlisted students, which was slightly larger than usual.

Will you be on it?

It's hard to pinpoint the exact number where the waitlist will kick in since the Sophomore Waitlist cutoff number changes every year and is highly variable. Last year, people were getting placed on waitlist with a number as low as 2200, but again, it's dependent on many factors.
