Miller Theatre evacuated due to fire (UPDATE: Fire in print services, Dodge gym also evacuated)

Sarah Darville, Michele Cleary, Michael Zhong, Zach Dyer, and Henry Willson report.

Miller Theatre, the site of tonight's Concert to Benefit Japan Earthquake Relief, has been evacuated due to a fire alarm.

Bystanders say the alarm began after the concert ended, when the audience had mostly left the theater. Deidre Fuchs, of Public Safety, told Spectator that the alarm started in the print shop in Dodge Hall, a building attached to the theater, where a print machine was smoking.

Nobody was hurt in the evacuation. Five fire trucks and an ambulance are stopped outside.

Update: FDNY firefighters, who had attached hoses to the fire hydrants in front of the theater, are now removing them. An officer from Public Safety says that the fire started in a room used for a laser apparatus, which responders are now experiencing difficulty accessing.

Update (11:23): The originator of the fire, who identified herself as a former student, said she was using a laser cutter that caught alight. She attempted to use two fire extinguishers to combat the flames. When they grew out of her control, she says, she shut the door behind her and called the police.

Fire alarms were also heard in Dodge Fitness Center.

Update (11:32): Dodge Fitness Center has also been evacuated. When students hesitated to leave, staff told gym users that the alarm was real.
