A quick look around the world of Columbia and Ivy League sports to see who’s hot and who’s not.
Three Up:
Baseball---Despite the sweep at the hands of defending champ Dartmouth, the team rebounded to sweep Harvard the next day. I can't think of many things that are harder than playing back-to-back doubleheaders (except maybe catching in them) but I saw a resiliency from this team that I have to imagine will serve it well later in the season.
Track and field---It seems like just yesterday that its outdoor season ended, but the squad is back at it, now competing outdoors. Strong showings in two different invitationals highlighted the team's depth and top-tier talent. Look for more success from this squad as its season continues.
Football---Spring football practice is underway and brings with it a renewed sense of optimism for the 2011 season. While the defense will lose all-Ivy linebacker Alex Gross, there is a lot to be excited about on the offensive side of the ball. Spring practice will commence with the annual spring game on April 22.
