A quick look around the world of Columbia and Ivy League sports to see who’s hot and who’s not. A slight change from past incarnations, as this week I've included one middling squad, whose maddeningly confusing season continues.
Three Up:
Women's rowing---I'll be the first to admit, I don't know all that much about rowing. That being said, the women's team was in DC this weekend and had the best weekend of any Columbia team, winning 12 of 13 races, capturing the women's championship of the George Washington Invitational Regatta, and the varsity eight beat Oxford (!) in the first Potomac Challenge Cup. Pretty solid weekend, yeah (in a British accent)?
Nicole Bartnik---Bartnik is not just the best women's tennis player at Columbia, but she may well be one of the best in the Northeast. Bartnik swept her opponents at No. 1 singles this past weekend against two top 45 squads nationally, running her Ivy record to 5-2 this spring.
Kacie Johnson---Johnson, an attacker on the women's lacrosse team, set the single-game record for Columbia by scoring eight goals in a game against Quinnipiac. Johnson has scored in 19 straight games, and has scored at least once in every game except one in her career. That is called a hot streak.
