“He has to have the newest Jordans when they come out,” says Ayelén Rodriguez, a freshman in CC, about a friend of hers from home. “He will look up online when they are coming out, and then go to a Foot Locker or anywhere that they sell them. Sometimes he will wait on line. You need to be one of the first people there, otherwise they will sell out.” Indeed, for most “sneakerheads”—those who have made a hobby (or obsession) of collecting sneakers—getting that fresh pair requires a high level of vigilance and a higher level of monetary sacrifice.
