It's not often that I get to write about sports as a Spectrum opinion blogger. This is largely because the only sports that are Columbia-relevant are, well, Columbia sports, and we have people for that. But last night the New York Knicks played the Boston Celtics in the NBA playoffs at Madison Square Garden. This is a big deal for a couple of reasons: 1) The first two games of the series were pretty incredible (it's still too painful to talk about last night's game), and more than any other games this season have shown that the Knicks will probably be playoff contenders for a few years to come (though, to be sure, the team still needs work). 2) It's the first time in 10-plus years that I've been able to say that, and the first time in as many years that anyone could reasonably refer to New York as a basketball town.
