There's this rumor that goes around every now and again that there's no school spirit/campus culture at Columbia. In some sense, I disagree with this—there is a school spirit at Columbia, even though it's not necessarily about watching, I don't know, lax star Brace Armstrong* sprinting across a college green with a keg under each arm. But, in another sense, I get it—we go to school in the city, where there's plenty to do that doesn't revolve around being on campus and forging community with each other. And a lot of us—not all, but enough—get so caught up in trying to be these interesting urbanites that we feign disinterest in all things rah-rah (and wear plaid and Ray-Bans) from time to time.
But next weekend is not going to be one of those times. Because next weekend is going to show why we've got spirit (yes we do!).
