Roundup of places to visit in Harlem

Check our earlier post of deals at Harlem in commemoration of Harlem Restaurant and Retail Month.

We’ve all heard it before. We tell someone we go to Columbia and they immediately recoil and say in Harlem?! We hastily correct them and deny any connection to Harlem. Well, I think it’s time to stop ignoring our neighbor in the north. It’s the perfect time to explore one of the most vibrant neighborhoods in the city. Grab a friend, head to Malcolm X Boulevard and find out just why we’re living in what is being touted as the new Harlem Renaissance. Below you will find a guide for where to go for a Harlem day trip.

EAT

Mojo Restaurant: You can’t really get more cultured than this. Chef and owner Mounir Jabrane has created sexy tribute to the Harlem Renassiance. Throw in food inspired by Morocco and Belgium, where he grew up, and life jazz, soul, and R&B and you’ve got yourself a Friday night out.

Il Caffe Latte: Like our very own Sip on Amsterdam, Il Caffe Latte is small, boisterous and full of artsy locals who have recently made Harlem home. Come for not only the food, but the art. The restaurant houses The Brick Wall Gallery, which exhibits work by local artists.

Lee's Lee's Baked Goods: This hole in the wall may be a bit on the grimy side, but that doesn’t stop the thousands of people who come each year to taste the city’s best rugelach. Come in for a free sample and then buy a dozen more (they’re only ¢80 each!)
