I like to think that I am a rational, peaceful person who appreciates complex issues as such. But I have to say that, while I did not run around chanting "USA!" after the announcement of Osama bin Laden's death, and while I did not "celebrate," per se (I agree with Caroline Blosser in that celebrating anyone's death seems somewhat strange), I was unequivocally glad when I heard.
Derek Turner wrote what is, in my opinion, a smart, thoughtful post about the need to put this event in the context of the current war, and to see it as a step toward a future victory. I can understand Derek's argument (it is, as I said, a smart, thoughtful one), but that's not how I see it. I see Osama bin Laden's death in the context of our past.
