In a break from tradition, the Columbia School of Journalism awarded Al Jazeera English with the Columbia Journalism Award, which, according to the J-School's website, is the school's highest honor. The honor, which is usually given to individuals, was given because of the "overall depth and quality of its peerless coverage of the ongoing protests in the Middle East."
