Westside is in 'Day After Tomorrow' mode

In a scene reminiscent of the Y2K scare, shoppers surged into Westside Market to stockpile groceries as the violent force of Hurricane Irene approaches. President Obama cautioned the eastern seaboard to "prepare for the worst" and Morningside residents have clearly taken the advice to heart. Batteries for flashlights, Fig Newtons, and bread were the first to go. The bread shelves at West Side are more barren than 1020 during the summer months. We predict that milk, eggs, and Bagel Bites will be the next to go as customers clamor for an emergency supply of food.

However, if you take into account the possibility of a power outage, these sought-after items may not be the best choices for survival. Instead, we recommend that readers stock up on canned foods, peanut butter, and dry cereals. Most importantly, stock up on water!
