In response to the General Studies Student Council's vote yesterday to suspend the bylaws in the council's constitution to internally elect Michael Oakley as VP of Finance, Mahogany Wright, VP Communications, sent out a sharply-worded letter of resignation that detailed her belief that GSSC was an "unhealthy environment" and that its leadership lacked transparency, purpose, or objectivity.
Here's an excerpt of the email (full email after the jump):
Through the manipulation of the constitution and bylaws, as well as the character and actions of individuals that has been displayed this past summer and week, I have lost respect for those persons that have been charged with leading this organization. I watched in horror as applicants were subjected to a hostile and inappropriate environment, while the agenda of certain individuals was being fulfilled.
Wright openly opposed Oakley's appointment, stating that there was nothing in the GSSC constitution, the supreme law for GSSC, that permitted GSSC to suspend the bylaws.
The position became vacant over summer after Joshua Lewin-Jacus, who had been elected as VP Finance last semester, transferred to Columbia College.
