Robert Redmond told me as we sped down the New Jersey Turnpike towards Gunnison Beach in Sandy Hook, N.J., one of the few clothing-optional beaches on the entire east coast. I had learned all too well Redmond’s views on nudity when I had met him for the first time three weeks ago, in his cozy Morningside apartment. Over refreshments, he explained to me in very simple terms why he enjoys being nude. “It feels great,” he laughed as he sat comfortably. “It just feels like freedom.”
