It’s pretty easy to walk past the bronze sculpture of an apple, pear, and acorn arch on the corner of 114th and Broadway without thinking twice. After all, if the oddest sight you’ve witnessed on the streets of New York is a fruit statue, you’ve definitely had a tame experience. This sculpture, titled “The Arch: Bridging The Gap,” is one of 19 pieces by artist Peter Woytuk on display on the Upper West Side for public view. The sculptures are distributed from Columbus Circle to Washington Heights, with most featuring a menagerie of fruit, plants, and animals.

When asked for their opinions on the art, several students responded:
“This is what art is today? I’m going to crush this soda can, paint it, and put it up for people to marvel at. Laaame.”
