On the second floor of the Diana today, five Barnard juniors hosted the first event of their newly formed group, Purple. During the lunch hours, the group spread their message of sustainability and community while serving up homemade, locally-sourced meals. Even President Spar showed up! With an impressive first menu (at the cost of a suggested $8 donation), the group showed how delicious it is to be sustainable.
To start, the menu for the "nomad café" offered a delicious, baby arugula salad with toasted hazelnuts, crumbled gorgonzola, and sweet purple grapes, dressed in a lemon-parsley vinaigrette. One of the mains was “homie’s homey butternut squash lasagna,” which had a creamy consistency and a hint of sweetness. The swiss chard and caramelized onion tacos, the other main course, was a flavorful blend of sizzling spices complemented by a light tortilla. Despite the impressive first menu, food is only the group's starting point—Purple is planning wide variety of events, including art galleries, trips, and cooking demonstrations in the Diana.
