Peña-Mora visits ESC

Highlights from last night's meeting, and some great Feniosky quotes:

Notes from the Dean:

  • Peña-Mora shared with the council a private presentation about Columbia's proposal to expand SEAS to the Manhattanville campus in their bid to win a city-wide competition.
  • "Now there have been some ideas back and forth on how to remodel Carleton. It's not aesthetically pleasing as we would like---we know that. But the whole Mudd building is not aesthetically pleasing. I tell people we are a very Spartan community."
  • On study abroad (this year in Hong Kong): "If you asked me this year ... I would say next year would be India and the next year Nairobi." He commented that in future years it could be possible for multiple programs each year but, "I do not foresee that in 2013. I think it will be too soon to do that."
  • Peña-Mora also said that he's in the process of raising funds to renovate biomedical labs in Mudd.
