The Village Voice has just published an interesting article about a new tactic companies are using to market their products and services to students---“campus reps.” They’re students who’ve been hired by said companies (among them Nike, Red Bull, and Victoria’s Secret) to increase their presence on campus.
The article mostly focuses on Nike’s presence at Columbia and NYU, specifically the Nike-sponsored Underwear Run at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow night. “The plan is simple,” Voice writer Michael Rymer explains, “Rain, shine, or freezing cold, the students will meet this Thursday evening on the Lehman Lawn of Barnard College. Then they'll strip down to their underwear—if they haven't already done so—and jog a two-mile course that will take them through the streets of Morningside Heights.”
